About the project
Steve and Suzy came to us with their project after being recommended by their architect. The project itself was unique and challenging. Being set high on a hill and exposed to the elements of Saltdean’s seafront brought its own challenges, as there was a lot of structural work to be done to the roof in standing both gables up to form a loft that was 10 meters in length.
We got stuck straight in and removed two existing small gables to the rear of the roof and a large chimney running through the centre of the house. This then allowed us to construct the new gable ends and proceed with the structural work inside. As the job proceeded I often asked the clients to come up and see the progress. Some companies don’t like doing that but I think is very important at certain stages in the conversion to make sure the clients are completely happy.
The whole project was enjoyable to do as I knew the end result was going to be fantastic. Steve & Suzy always knew they wanted to convert the loft to make use of the unbelievable and unobstructed sea views. They wanted as much glass in the project as allowed under permitted development and so opted for two sets of Juliette doors with glass balconies so as not to spoil the view.
A late addition to the loft was a small freestanding bath which Suzy really wanted by the bathroom window…again to enjoy the view and the odd sunset while unwinding. I’m always happy to accommodate changes in the project if its really going to make the best use of the conversion, that’s what I think sets us apart from the competition.
Both Steve & Suzy were a pleasure to work with and always knew what they wanted out of the space which always makes it easier from a contractors point of view. We worked on a few different ideas and added and took away a few details to get everything just how they wanted. We finished the project buy building some wardrobes into the sloped section of the conversion giving them both plenty of storage for their clothes etc.
They both expressed to me just how happy they are with their new bedroom and ensuite and that alone is what makes building these conversions so worthwhile.
